Close-up of Christmas ribbon

We have many great gift ideas for all budgets! This year, choose to give a gift that will not only be enjoyed, but also teaches about being healthy and environmentally friendly.

The following gift ideas (plants) can be purchased right at The Green Marketplace at Adamson Road (see hours and location)
  • Living Christmas Tree - Purchase a 3 or 5 gallon Southern Red Cedar (Juniperus silicicola) and decorate it with berry garland, small pine cones, and other natural items.
  • Butterfly Garden- Purchase an assortment of native plants that provide nectar for butterflies and food for caterpillars. Combine the plants with some handouts on butterfly gardening or a great butterfly gardening book. Some great plants for sunnyareas include: passion vine, wild petunia, black-eyed Susan, red sage, firebush, sennas (cassia), blue porterweed, goldenrods, pennyroyal, Key West morning glory, and necklace pod (to name a few). Suggestions for shady areas include passion vine, red sage, Key West morning glory, firebush, lyre-leaf sage, and spiderwort.
  • Privacy and Wildlife Garden- Know someone who wants to turn their backyard into a private retreat? Give them some plants that make great living fences and also are great for birds, like Simpson's stopper, Walter's Viburnum, Firebush (sun or shade), Florida privet, myrsine, white indigo berry, wax myrtle (sun to light shade), fiddlewood, and sea grape (full sun). Throw in a book on outdoor living, gardening for wildlife, or include a bird feeder or house.
  • Container Garden(herbs or natives) - Purchase a few small herb plants or native plants and plant them in your favorite container. Consider buying a nice one-of-a kind pot from a local pottery studio. Fill it with potting soil, our worm castings (organic fertilizer), and a few plants. If using herbs, include a recipe for pesto or other dish that uses those herbs. Top the container with some Spanish moss (native epiphyte) and pine cones, and tie a nice holiday ribbon around the pot or plants.
  • Rain Barrel Don't waste the rain! Catch it and use it on your plants. They can be painted to match your house or with flowers, etc. For more information, click here.
  • Grow Box - The best and easiest way to grow vegetable plants! These self contained growing systems water your plants from the bottom up, keeping the plants cooler and all the nutrients in the soil. Our grow boxes include organic fertilizers too! $23 + tax.
